Sorry for the lack of postings. I was away on an island that looked like it was from Survivor, only there was no Jeff Probst and well, a lot more mai tais. Resting took precedence over technology. And now it's super late today because I'm quite busy catching up with all the work I missed. Apologies! I hope you haven't all switched over to Rob Cesternino's blog.
But, here I am, all caught up. So we lost Jay, then Leif, and now Troyzan. Getting a little predictable, non? Is anyone else thinking that when the voting gets a little predictable, the producers have a meeting around some table and someone says over their doughnuts & coffee, "I know! Why don't we do a challenge where the contestants are all wearing their bikinis and are covered in oil?" Brilliant!
I mean, I'm not even sure I have a lot to say. Let's just give Kim the money now, shall we? None of the other girls are smart enough to make a move. Christina really... no REALLY should have made a move while she could. She gave it a half-assed try last night. Sabrina straight up TOLD her that the girls were putting her name down as a split vote strategy. Basically, if Troyzan pulled out an idol, Christina would go home. Sabrina, immediately realized she shouldn't have really said anything, but Christina really didn't process it, did she? She was a little bit out of sorts, but not enough to actually formulate a plan. Then again, what's she going to do? Ally herself with Troy, who would then go on to beat her at everything? Either way, she's screwed. And sorry, but Christina is really, really TERRIBLE at challenges. The one with the coconuts... then last night's one. I'm not even sure she made it to the end of the oil slick before her opponent had won. Sigh... I really want to like Christina. I really do, but just like Leif, she makes it very difficult by being so..... vacant.
They did that challenge last night where Jeff asks the group things like "Who least deserves to be here?" and they all have to answer.... Everyone answered Christina. Even Jeff seems to find it perplexing... He even asked her at Tribal, "Christina, why are you here?" Her answer, "Because I'm a very lucky girl." True that. I think I've written before about the difference between playing the 'under the radar' strategy and just plain old not playing. People like Christina & Leif are annoying because they seem to be not playing. Not helping themselves. They're on a vacation/adventure for sure, where they have to play some games and live with some annoying people, but I don't think they are really playing Survivor. You know?
Then there's Troyzan. Again, I want to like him. Sometimes he's great and he owns monkeys. But he also makes it hard to like him due to his woman-issues (seriously, does anyone else think that Troy maybe went through a bad divorce and now has anger issues towards women? It's come out a few times where he all of a sudden blurts out stuff like, "All women are like that," or "Typical woman..." That sort of thing.... only slightly more aggressive than passive. Maybe he got the monkeys in the divorce?) Then there's the chest-pounding a la silverback gorilla, alpha-male, fist-pumping, weird yelling ("This is MY island!!!") business. (Again, part of the anger issues, or just competitive male stuff? Discuss.) At any rate, whose game do you respect more? The Leif/Christinas or the Troyzan? For me, it's still the Troyzan. Would I date him? Hells no! But is he a better player? Yup. He's also better TV. But mostly, he played his heart out. When one strategy didn't pan out, he went to another one. He kept looking for idols. He kept talking. He kept stirring things up. He tried to get in the heads of his opponents. I dig that. He went out with a bang.
Now, sadly, we're stuck with the girls and Tarzan. Tarzan's along for the ride and should get voted out soon. We've discussed Christina. I still can't stand Alicia, though once in a while she seems like a normal person....she's not. Chelsea's a good competitor but wishy-washy. Sabrina's smart and pretty good at challenges. Kim's in charge, kicks butt at challenge and is likable... and don't forget she still has an idol! Interesting that those 5 girls who made a pact the first day have actually stuck with it. Then there's Kat. I adore Kat.
Kat got all upset last night because she didn't get picked to go on a helicopter reward with Kim. Troyzan pointed out that she's not in the top three of the girls. This got under her skin & she's unravelling a bit. She doesn't want to be thought of as a follower. OK... except she's been following the whole time, right? All of a sudden, she wants to be in charge? Sure. Looks like she causes a bit of trouble next week. 'Cause we need it. Otherwise, really, Jeff. Just give the money to Kim right now. We need a pick-me-up!

Kim Takes Control, Leif Loves BBQ, and The Rantics of a Lunatic Continue
So first off, I have to mention that I'm going on a much-needed holiday for the next couple of weeks so the blog might not be up to its usual super high standards. Apologies in advance. It's not like I'm going to the middle of the rain forest or anything, they do have TVs and Internet connections where I'm going.... just, you know how it goes. Sometimes blogging is less of a priority when faced with say, drinking a mai tai. Also, I don't own a laptop (you know how long it took me to get a PVR....) so it might depend if I can find a real computer or if I blog from my iPhone.
Enough of that. What did you think of last night's show? I'm a bit torn. Again, it's another reasonably nice, normal person going home while a lot of weirdos stay put. But I can't say I'm sad to see another original Ab-4 member go.... let's not forget that, shall we? On the other hand, I worry that the girls moved too quickly against their Salani alliance. Maybe should have stuck it out for another vote or two... maybe pushed for Leif instead of Mike? It's true that the ladies have the numbers, but the four ladies in charge seem to just assume that Christina & Alicia will be loyal. Christina's a bit of a twit and really should be selling herself to the highest bidder right now. Alicia is a lunatic. She's the proverbial "wild card"... It's really hard to tell which way she'll go - we've already seen her turn against the women's alliance once, and she doesn't seem to be exactly in the loop with them now either. If she gets a good enough offer, she'd turn in a second.
However, let's not forget either that Kim has a hidden immunity idol. Can we talk about Kim for a minute? Geez, when did she become the power player? Has she always been, and the clever Survivor editors were just holding on so that somewhere in Canada some blogger would write, "Geez, when did she become the power player?" Perhaps. It's good TV. Provided she keeps being smart, she's got a really good chance here. Not only does she have the immunity idol, but she hasn't blabbed about it, she's got a good alliance with Chelsea, Sabrina & Kat, she's smart and she's a physical contender to win challenges. Plus, she's kind of normal and likable, so even if she has to vote people out she hasn't (at least so far) totally pissed anyone off. I would vote for Kim.
If I'm Kim, I keep the ladies close and end up with some misfits at the end. Tarzan or Leif would be excellent choices... or Christina! Right? Tarzan makes everyone crazy (more on him in a bit) and Leif... well, we've already discussed his mental capacity. Leif is just STILL not even playing the game. I mean, it's one thing to fly under the radar as a strategy... it's another thing to fly under the radar because you've got absolutely no strategy at all. Leif is not there because he's a good player, he's there because he's meaningless. I don't mean that in a mean way either, though it doesn't sound good.... but really, he's never been included in the strategy (or at least not for a while)... he's never really told how people are voting or what's going on, and he's not a threat to anyone because of this. At best, he can be used for a vote if you need him, at worst he's a wasted vote. And oh my goodness, does he ever like BBQ. When his team won the reward challenge (sponsored by 7-up.... but for once I think it worked.... I really wanted a 7-up in a glass bottle like they had!) and got to go for a barbeque at the "7-up Oasis"... Leif went mental. Like, seriously mental. Jumping up and down yelling, "Barbeque, barbeque, barbeque!! I LOVE BARBEQUE!" Like, over and over again. Which, when you're still actually ON A TEAM with other people who did not get the BBQ... you should really shut your yell-hole and go away.
And then there's Christina. I desperately want to like Christina. She's the underdog, and as I keep mentioning, she MUST be more annoying to live with than what we see on TV. She seems so normal and nice.... and I give her huge props for how she handled Colton and Alicia being turds to her.... but what the hell, Christina? When is she going to start playing the game? She needs to be selling her vote hard, and again, maybe we're just not seeing it. Maybe next show.... And then, in the challenge when her team has to carry a huge, heavy crate/box/puzzle piece thingy from the water, up the beach.... she just runs on ahead, not helping. Her team is astounded and someone even says, "What is she doing?" I figure, maybe she's smart and she's running up ahead to start in on the puzzle or make room or something, but no. She just stands there being useless. So yeah, maybe Christina would annoy me too. Hard to say.
Jay pulled off a huge come-from-behind victory to win the immunity challenge. It was a very complicated looking 3D puzzle. I enjoyed Kat leaning in to someone saying, "I don't think I could do that." Something like that. At least she is self-aware somewhat. Then, she goes and makes up a brilliant word at Tribal Council. When my ex-boyfriend Jeff asks Tarzan a question about the game, Tarzan responds with his usual crazy... "We are playing you, Jeff. You see we can't tell you what's really going on. Because the game is afoot." Ooooooh Kaaaaaaay. Jeff: Kat, what do you all think when Tarzan starts talking like a lunatic? Kat: Well, he goes on these RANTICS, and when he's on his rantics you don't really know what to do...." This, my friends, is my new favourite word. It's a cross between a rant and antics, obviously. More than a rant... or perhaps a rant for the purpose of causing trouble or chaos? I can't be sure that Kat made this up herself on purpose, whether someone else made it up and she's repeating it, or whether she's just completely unaware that it's not a real word... This is the most plausible. Either way, it's brilliant.
Mike got voted out. But you notice that Tarzan got 2 votes (from Christina & Alicia) and Christina got 2 votes (from Mike and Leif)... so there are lots of people who aren't in the loop and hopefully will figure out that they should be. I'm betting only Alicia is shrewd enough to really do this.... which makes me sad. Jay went along with the girls' plan, even though he didn't want to, but it looks like next time he fights. I'm hoping it'll make for another good blindside. Stay tuned.... and keep checking back. Hopefully the blog will happen in a timely manner... if not, I owe you a mai tai. Deal?
