Sorry for the lack of postings. I was away on an island that looked like it was from Survivor, only there was no Jeff Probst and well, a lot more mai tais. Resting took precedence over technology. And now it's super late today because I'm quite busy catching up with all the work I missed. Apologies! I hope you haven't all switched over to Rob Cesternino's blog.
But, here I am, all caught up. So we lost Jay, then Leif, and now Troyzan. Getting a little predictable, non? Is anyone else thinking that when the voting gets a little predictable, the producers have a meeting around some table and someone says over their doughnuts & coffee, "I know! Why don't we do a challenge where the contestants are all wearing their bikinis and are covered in oil?" Brilliant!
I mean, I'm not even sure I have a lot to say. Let's just give Kim the money now, shall we? None of the other girls are smart enough to make a move. Christina really... no REALLY should have made a move while she could. She gave it a half-assed try last night. Sabrina straight up TOLD her that the girls were putting her name down as a split vote strategy. Basically, if Troyzan pulled out an idol, Christina would go home. Sabrina, immediately realized she shouldn't have really said anything, but Christina really didn't process it, did she? She was a little bit out of sorts, but not enough to actually formulate a plan. Then again, what's she going to do? Ally herself with Troy, who would then go on to beat her at everything? Either way, she's screwed. And sorry, but Christina is really, really TERRIBLE at challenges. The one with the coconuts... then last night's one. I'm not even sure she made it to the end of the oil slick before her opponent had won. Sigh... I really want to like Christina. I really do, but just like Leif, she makes it very difficult by being so..... vacant.
They did that challenge last night where Jeff asks the group things like "Who least deserves to be here?" and they all have to answer.... Everyone answered Christina. Even Jeff seems to find it perplexing... He even asked her at Tribal, "Christina, why are you here?" Her answer, "Because I'm a very lucky girl." True that. I think I've written before about the difference between playing the 'under the radar' strategy and just plain old not playing. People like Christina & Leif are annoying because they seem to be not playing. Not helping themselves. They're on a vacation/adventure for sure, where they have to play some games and live with some annoying people, but I don't think they are really playing Survivor. You know?
Then there's Troyzan. Again, I want to like him. Sometimes he's great and he owns monkeys. But he also makes it hard to like him due to his woman-issues (seriously, does anyone else think that Troy maybe went through a bad divorce and now has anger issues towards women? It's come out a few times where he all of a sudden blurts out stuff like, "All women are like that," or "Typical woman..." That sort of thing.... only slightly more aggressive than passive. Maybe he got the monkeys in the divorce?) Then there's the chest-pounding a la silverback gorilla, alpha-male, fist-pumping, weird yelling ("This is MY island!!!") business. (Again, part of the anger issues, or just competitive male stuff? Discuss.) At any rate, whose game do you respect more? The Leif/Christinas or the Troyzan? For me, it's still the Troyzan. Would I date him? Hells no! But is he a better player? Yup. He's also better TV. But mostly, he played his heart out. When one strategy didn't pan out, he went to another one. He kept looking for idols. He kept talking. He kept stirring things up. He tried to get in the heads of his opponents. I dig that. He went out with a bang.
Now, sadly, we're stuck with the girls and Tarzan. Tarzan's along for the ride and should get voted out soon. We've discussed Christina. I still can't stand Alicia, though once in a while she seems like a normal person....she's not. Chelsea's a good competitor but wishy-washy. Sabrina's smart and pretty good at challenges. Kim's in charge, kicks butt at challenge and is likable... and don't forget she still has an idol! Interesting that those 5 girls who made a pact the first day have actually stuck with it. Then there's Kat. I adore Kat.
Kat got all upset last night because she didn't get picked to go on a helicopter reward with Kim. Troyzan pointed out that she's not in the top three of the girls. This got under her skin & she's unravelling a bit. She doesn't want to be thought of as a follower. OK... except she's been following the whole time, right? All of a sudden, she wants to be in charge? Sure. Looks like she causes a bit of trouble next week. 'Cause we need it. Otherwise, really, Jeff. Just give the money to Kim right now. We need a pick-me-up!
